Damodar Mauzo is a Goan short story writer, novelist, critic and script writer in Konkani language. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1983 for the novel Karmelin.
When published, Mauzo’s novel was a breath of fresh air in a culture that suppressed liberating discourse and treated sex as taboo. While society has progressed, patriarchy has remained constant to a certain degree. Thus, in the character of Karmelin, we find a microcosm of the experiences of women across the country.
Jessica Faleiro’s fiction, poetry, essays and travel pieces have been published in Asia Literary Review, Forbes, Indian Quarterly, IndiaCurrents, Coldnoon, Joao Roque Literary Journal, Mascara Literary Review, Muse India and the Times of India as well as in various anthologies.
Her first novel ‘Afterlife: Ghost stories from Goa’ (2012) is about a Goan family and their ‘ghostly’ encounters and she recently released ‘The Delicate Balance of Little Lives’ (2018), a collection of interlinked stories about five middle-class Goan women trying to cope with loss. She won the Joao Roque Literary Award ‘Best in Fiction 2017 for her short story ‘Unmatched.’
Pogoat Goa is a Goan writer. His first novel Fair-Weather Brother is a scary reminder of the times we live in – drugs, prostitution, corruption and fear of an impending nuclear disaster. And, this could possibly be the reason why “The Jobless Blogger” lists Pogoat as the most dangerous Goan Writer.
