Convergence : Rediscovering Heritage Through Technology :
An exploration of changing contexts in innovation through objects from the Goa Chitra Ethnographic Museum.
The Presentation-Talk-Demo brings together India Foundation for the Arts – Goa Chitra Museum fellows Aparajita Bhasin and Lina Vincent as they highlight the techniques and philosophies of why and how we design and build objects, and how changing technologies have altered everyday experiences. On the one hand, the study of material culture of the past provides insights into the deep understanding that craftspersons had on material efficiency, utility, sustainability and aesthetics of design, much of which has been sacrificed in contemporary mass-production. On the other hand, advanced human technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Augmented reality and Virtual reality create possibilities of knowledge and heritage to be preserved and documented for posterity, not only creating a whole new realm of audience engagement with museums but also developing frameworks for learning from the past.
